India has been celebrating Teacher's Day on 5th of September since 1962. 5th of September is the birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakhrishnan, a philosopher and a teacher par excellence. Some of his students and friends approached him and requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday. In reply, he said, "instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege if September 5th is observed as Teacher's day". The request showed his love for the teaching profession. From then onwards, his birthday is observed as Teacher's Day in India. All this lead to Teachers Day origin in India.
It is said that an average teacher teaches, a good teacher explains, a superior teacher illustrates, and a great teacher both learns and inspires students. We can never thank our teachers enough for their efforts. Teacher's Day is celebrated to show our acknowledgement and recognition of the hard work put in by our teachers towards our development.
I believe that teaching is one of the best professions all the time. A teacher is a guru not only teaches academics but also teaches you how to grow in your life. I want to dedicate this page to some of my best teachers/lecturers in my life.
Chinniah Sir - He was our English teacher at school, whose classes we enjoyed all the time. Till 9th class, I did not know even English grammar but in 10th class I was able to speak and write proper English. That was all possible with his lessons. He used to deeply involve in the lessons and used to enact the situation in the lesson so that every one can understand the lesson completely. He taught till the age of 80+. Hats off to his teaching style & patience.
Narayana Sir - He was our Physics lecturer at 10+2 college. Physics was the tough subject for me and it was easy when he started teaching it. He used to mix the physics with movies so that nobody feels it boring; rather they listen to his classes with interest. He was very simple and handsome too. He taught lavanya also and she too likes his teaching.
Ashok Sir - He was our Accounting lecturer at Post graduation. I never thought I would learn Accounting subject until I join MSc(IS). With computer applications background, it was difficult to understand Balance sheet, Journals, profit and loss etc but all those were made easy with his classes. He is also a good friend to me.
Me as a Lecturer - My first job was as a lecturer at Bhavan’s Vivekananada College. I enjoyed every moment of teaching. You should be a student to be a good teacher because you should learn to teach as well as listen to students. I taught BSc, MSc(CS) and MSc(IS) students at Bhavan’s. I love teaching because you get a chance to mould your students as better citizens. Also you get so many holidays in this profession :-)
